A tour of IcelandRoute 1 runs the circumference of Iceland, a country that was established by vikings in the late ninth century. It remained independent until the thirteenth century, after which it was under the government of either Norway or Denmark, only becoming recognized as an independent kingdom again following World War I. Our journey started in Reykjavik and we set off counter-clockwise on Route 1 stopping at a series of beautiful waterfalls including Bruarfoss, Gullfoss, Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss and Svartifoss. Eventually we'd be reaching the Glacier Lagoon, where chunks of glacial ice are carried out to sea by a river of melted ice. Then, we headed North up the east coast to the Puffin Marina before heading inland across stunning lava fields to Myvatn and across to the Snaefells Peninsula before circling back to Reykjavik.
