This afternoon I spent the first day of my Easter break in Bombay wandering the backstreets of Colaba Market. It was 30 degrees but there was little humidity and a light breeze which made it much more pleasant than my last visit.
Bombay continues to astound me. There’s something about the friendliness of the people here. I can’t think of any other country where people selling their goods on the street whistle at you not because they want you to buy something from them, but because they’ve seen your camera and want you to photograph them. Though some ask for the photo, most of them are simply happy that you took the time. We were looking at a portable printer for this trip to be able to print the images on the spot and hand them out. Unfortunately the battery didn’t come with the printer and there wasn’t time to pick it up, so we’ll have to do that next time.
Today, we also visited Churchgate station and found the spot where Sebastian Salgado took his wonderful image of two commuter trains arriving.
