Last weekend I visited Thailand's capital Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, or Krung Thep for short (which means City of Angels), or Bangkok to give it its common name. Albeit a very short trip, with the continued overhead threat of rain, it was a great experience visiting all of the temples and especially accidentally running into a bustling market outside of the ICP flower market with its extraordinary wonderful smell of coriander combined with fresh flowers. Keen to make a Self-Portrait Per Day video like Noah Kalina did? Now, thanks to Everyday for the iPhone, you too can create a similar masterpiece. When you first load up Everyday, you’re asked to take a picture of your face. Once you do this, you’re asked to align a grid to where you nose, mouth, and eyes are. This means that for each picture you take, your face can be in the same position — a key ingredient in the original Kalina video. And there’s also an overlay photo mask of your original face picture (which can be switched on and off) to help you align your face. And the real key may be the alert...
Does the iPad2 have the potential to become a serious tool for a photographer?DPReview has written a 3-page review, not from a technical angle (like many of the reviews you might see out there), but from the angle of whether or not it can become a serious tool for a photographer, rather than just a toy. The iPad now has over 4000 photography apps in the App Store. The article discusses the in-built cameras (and comments that the 0.7MP rear-facing camera makes it only useful for recording video), the camera connection kit, and several really interesting photo and workflow apps (and the article is worth...
I "liked" this article from PC Magazine today. It's an interview with Mike Stimpson (aka Balakov on Flickr). You'll probably recognise his set of classics on Flickr re-worked in Lego as they have received over 1.2 million visitors already. Mike has also produced a book on Blurb called "Stormtroopers, We love you" that is sure to put a smile on your face.
It's hard to believe that I have been living in Hong Kong for six months now. So, I've taken a look through the... errr... 9,962 pictures that I have taken since arriving and put together a gallery of my favourites. Click here.
This weekend was another outdoor adventure, this time to the Wan Tsai extension of the Sai Kung National Park. The team of 11 photographers hiked from Hoi Ha along the fairly rough path to the Wan Tsai peninsula, after which I led the group an extremely long way round to the campsite itself. Instead of 2 minutes up a well marked track, I decided the smaller path looked like the right one from the map. 45 minutes later, and after a long trek up a steep and unclear track with our heavy backpacks, we finally made it to the beautiful West Campsite.
